what with this music article

What’s with this music?  Article Hayley is your normal 17-year-old college student living in Darlington and like most young people she loves music but her taste differs slightly. Instead of the music people listen to today like Martin Garrix and Lady gaga, Hayley prefers to listen to the likes of Adam of the Ants and Queen. Does today’s music seem a little tiresome and repetitive? Looking for a new genre to listen too but the old eras are “prehistoric”.

Well Hayley begs to differ.  Old music is what she likes best .To diverse her music playlist she mixes the old with the new and believes there is nothing better than some retro music to spice up your life. I bet your wondering why she likes the 80s? Isn’t this the music your dad dances to awkwardly when he thinks no one watching? Well according to Hayley “the sound differs dramatically. No two songs sound the same and that’s what I love! Its just so bouncy and quirky” Hayley likes songs that some young people have never heard of.

Listening to the likes of Adam and the Ants she finds that these are the best band to come out of the 80s due to their rock influence and the edgy sound, which she believes makes them cool.  If your wondering who they are and what did they sing ask your parents about a song called “stand and deliver” you will be amazed at the results.

The 80s had a massive effect on music and fashion. With younger people looking up to the musicians to inspire their style much like the young people of today. Fashion majors in the 80s were people like George Michael, Madonna and Debbie Harry. Hayley tells us that her band and era does sort of have and impact on the way she dresses. “Adam and the Ants style was really different”  “I guess I do like to be different” but she feels that fashion today is a constant regeneration of clothes from different eras so she feels that her clothes are influence in some way.

Getting into an older era is not a normal thing for most young people of today and they usually have some influence to how they came to listen to this music.  Is the move towards old music imposed or self-inflicted?For Hayley she believes it’s a bit of both. Both her parents loved to listen to 80s music so as she has grown up 80s music has always been around as she has grown up. It was Hayley herself who then chose to listen to it further and find her own favorites and genres from within the 80s.

Unlike todays music, there isn’t a new 80s track every other week to keep people hooked and interested in that style of music. So how do people keep hooked on the retro vibes? The main thing that keeps Hayley hooked is the fun and diverse era which has music that is edgy but still quirky enough to get her in a good mood and helps her get motivated to go to work. Hayley’s top five reasons to why you should listen to the 80’s are:·

  • ·         It has a good rhythm and sound
  • ·         It has a cool image and isn’t as ancient as people think
  • ·         Very different style to any other era I’ve listened too.
  • ·         It puts you in a good mood when you listen to it.
  •            Its fun to listen too.
